The arduous process of creating the large ensembles is seen from a distance, with dry humor and detachment, in these tabletop works. Made primarily out of paper, they are another example of paper’s strength. The sculptures become characters acting out their stories, along with their maker, a Chaplin-like figure.

 

In one, the artist stands facing a wobbly structure propped by wooden supports too tall for her to handle. In another, the studio is set up for a visit, with sculptures in progress, chairs, drawings, and even cookies arranged for a guest. In a third, the artist’s son bends toward a finished sculpture, perplexed by its stance.
