Not everyone has a straight path

For many years I’d felt that I was following a life path that was assigned to me rather than found. I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was a different world there when I was young, circumscribed and conditional. Most importantly, I didn’t have sculpture yet, so I was executing tasks set for me by someone else. At 30, I found myself with a Ph. D. in Mathematics, living in New Jersey, and with a job “in my field.” To explain how it happened would mean telling a long tale full of politics and family history.
